Stakeholder Engagement

How often should the board meet?

This is a question of ensuring that meetings happen often enough for the governance process to be truly consultative, whilst still enabling the operational running of the area to continue smoothly without having to wait for decisions to be approved by the board. In short, it is a question of being consultative and representative, whilst also being able to “get things done”. This is closely related to the question about size of the board.

In some of the SHAPE examples, boards meet only once per year, although in these cases, there are usually thematic groups who meet more regularly than this. In other cases, boards meet several times per year.
