What wider issues/areas of focus are likely to draw people in?

Engaging people from outside of the governance structure in the area may be helped by linking it to a wider, prominent issue or area of focus. It is therefore important for those responsible for designated areas to stay informed of issues of concern that may serve to engage more people in the area.

One Biosphere Reserve forming part of the SHAPE project described how concern about climate change mitigation has recently provided a “hook” for engaging a wide variety of people in the work that they are doing, where previously, they had had to identify a number of different themes through which to promote the area to different interest groups.
